Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for its much-anticipated entry into the electric SUV space with the e Vitara. Official bookings are expected to open soon, and the midsize EV is slated to hit the Indian market in March 2025. This marks a significant step in Maruti’s journey toward electrification.

Design and Build

Built on Maruti’s new e-Heartect platform, the e Vitara will be offered in three familiar trims—Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Customers will have the option to choose from ten colors, including six single-tone and four dual-tone shades. The SUV’s 2,700 mm wheelbase ensures spacious interiors, while a compact 5.2-meter turning radius makes it agile for city driving. Maruti has also used high-tensile steel for over half of the vehicle’s construction, emphasizing durability.

Interior Features

Inside, the e Vitara features a dual-tone cabin design with vertically stacked AC vents and breathable Melange Fabric on the door armrests. Technology takes center stage with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster paired with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers connectivity options like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Powertrain and Range

The e Vitara will come with two battery options: a 48.8 kWh pack and a larger 61.1 kWh unit. While the Delta trim will only be offered with the smaller battery, Zeta and Alpha buyers can choose between the two. The smaller battery produces 142 bhp and 192.5 Nm of torque, while the larger one bumps output to 172 bhp with the same torque.

All variants support 70 kW DC fast charging, enabling quick top-ups on the go. Maruti claims a range of over 500 km on a single charge, making it a solid option for long-distance driving. Both battery packs are LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) units, sourced from BYD, known for their durability and efficiency.

Competition and Market Position

The e Vitara will enter a competitive segment, taking on rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE 6. Maruti’s strategy is to offer a well-rounded package of design, features, and range, appealing to Indian buyers seeking reliability and practicality in an electric SUV.
