Maruti’s Swift has earned a loyal following for its fuel efficiency, and the new version—featuring a Z-series three-cylinder petrol engine—keeps that reputation intact. During regular use, it comfortably manages 14 km/l in city traffic and stretches to 19 km/l on highways. To add more fuel-saving potential, Maruti has rolled out a CNG variant, priced between ₹8.20 and ₹9.20 lakh. The CNG trim, only available for mid-range models, is priced around ₹90,000 higher than its petrol sibling.
Styling and Exterior Details
The CNG variant we tested was the ZXI trim, just below the highest-spec ZXI+. It skips extras like fog lamps and dual-tone alloy wheels, but you still get 15-inch silver-finished alloys. One new element is the CNG filler cap on the rear right fender, which stands out—but not necessarily in a good way. Despite this, the Swift’s sporty stance and signature rounded profile remain unmistakable, keeping it fun and youthful.
Cabin Experience
Step inside, and the cabin greets you with a simple all-black theme. It’s straightforward and practical, though it doesn’t escape a few shortcomings. For instance, there’s no cruise control, and the monochrome information display feels barebones. However, a dual fuel gauge—separately showing petrol and CNG levels—is a welcome addition.
Comfort and Practicality
The 7-inch touchscreen is responsive and user-friendly but feels a little lost within its oversized frame. The seats, on the other hand, provide excellent comfort with well-thought-out ergonomics. The rear seats offer sufficient room for two adults. The downside? The 55-litre CNG cylinder takes up nearly the entire boot, leaving space only for a small soft bag. Exposed cylinder mountings and the absence of boot cladding further detract from the experience. There’s also no spare tyre in this variant, which could be a concern for some buyers.
Features and Safety
The Swift S-CNG isn’t lacking in features, though it doesn’t quite check all the boxes. It offers automatic LED headlights, a rear wiper and washer, a 7-inch touchscreen with six speakers, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, and a wireless charging pad. On the safety front, it includes six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill-start assist. However, fog lamps and a rear-view camera are notably absent, which feels like a missed opportunity.
